Take your time to explore your concept. – Sometimes it seems like starting is the hardest part, but this is where you’ll have to come up with ideas, concepts, themes, and your printing techniques. Keep your focus and make sure that your design idea clearly tells your viewers what you want to say.
Imagine the design on a shirt. –Visualize your design by customizing your own text, design, or image, adjust the size, print it out and place it on the actual t-shirt.
Detail is king but keep things simple. – Remember the designs should be simple and minimal but the detail should be meaningful. Too much of anything might look ugly for many people. Try to read magazines or search the web for a description of what you want on your T-shirt design. If you put more than 3 words on your T-shirt design, it wouldn’t be easy to read so remember that height, case, and font all affect legibility.
Color - Find a good color combination to make your T-shirt stand out. There are times that the design doesn’t have any problem in the mock-up, but doesn’t look good on the printed shirt itself. Make sure your colors are consistent from the computer to the actual printing.
Source a good printer and materials. – Before you start printing, you have to look for a good quality T-shirts first because there is no sense in printing in a good design on a cheap garment. Then scout around for the best printing services you can find, because there is no sense in having a good garment ruined by low-quality printing.
Consider your market. - What’s the use in designing your own t-shirts if no one buys them? In order to attract buyers, first you need to understand what your market’s interests are and what kind of design they want. Be clear about whom you’re targeting.
