Automattic Buys WooCommerce Plugin for WordPress
With 7.5 million downloads and counting, WooCommerce remains WordPress’ most popular free e-commerce toolkit. And now, Automattic, the company responsible for WordPress.com, has officially purchased the plugin.
According to the company, WooCommerce is “the biggest acquisition by Automattic to date.” WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg also announced the acquisition on Youtube just last week:
Since WooCommerce has already been tried-and-tested by WordPress users over the years, it has become a staple for those running online stores. For new users that wish to establish an online business via WordPress, this means it’s going to be much easier creating personalized online shops. From product displays to payment systems, to inventory management and
website analytics, WooCommerce has it all — and WordPress will make integrating it into your site even much easier.
